The Brisbane Lions’ preseason will reach a crescendo this month with the commencement of the JLT Community Series on March 3.
In a revamped competition, the Lions will play two games in preparation for the AFL season, which kicks off at the Gabba in Round 1 against the West Coast Eagles on March 23.
The JLT Community Series will give the Lions the chance to build match fitness ahead of their opening round showdown with the Eagles.
The series will see the Lions host Hawthorn at Moreton Bay Central Sports Complex in the first week followed with a trip to Melbourne to play the Demons at Casey Field the following week.
The Lions claimed scalps over the Hawks twice throughout the 2018 season, including Luke Hodge’s first game against his former club at the Gabba in Round 8.
Hugh McCluggage was among the Lions’ best on both occasions where he collected 29 and 27 disposals against the Hawks.
Lions fans will also have the opportunity to see the Lions' new faces play their first games in team colours after the Club selected five players in the 2018 AFL Draft.
Established players such as Lachie Neale, Lincoln McCarthy, Jarryd Lyons and Marcus Adams were also welcomed additions to the playing stocks across the offseason and could feature throughout the JLT Community Series.
The JLT Community Series may also herald the return of several players including sharpshooter Charlie Cameron to the side following his rehabilitation from a Lisfranc injury.
Cameron’s return could prove timely in the Lions’ second fixture against Melbourne after his performance against the Demons in Round 2 2018.
Now in his second season with the Club, Cameron kicked a team-high three goals against Melbourne and helped erase a 26-point deficit in the third quarter before the visitors pulled away to seal a Demon’s win.
