New recruit Marcus Adams is a chance to make his debut for the Lions this weekend against the GWS GIANTS, after being named on the extended bench in Senior Coach Chris Fagan’s 26-man squad this afternoon.
Adams came to the Lions in October last year via the trade period but has battled knee injuries since his arrival. The 26-year-old made his return on field via the NEAFL two weeks ago and has played the past two games, alternating between the forward and backline.
Oscar McInerney has been ruled out due to a concussion incurred in last week’s win over the Melbourne Demons. Fellow ruckman Archie Smith has been named on Fagan’s bench as an alternative for McInerney.
Joining Smith and Adams on the bench are Josh Walker, Nick Robertson and Alex Witherden.
If named in Fagan’s final team tomorrow, Sunday’s clash with the GIANTS will be Walker’s first senior game since Round 10’s loss to Fremantle in Perth. Robertson’s last AFL match was Round 12’s loss to Carlton in Melbourne.
Witherden was a late exclusion in Sunday’s win over the Demons, after coming down with a virus pre-game.
Fagan’s final 22-man team will be named tomorrow at 5pm.
Lachie Neale, who will play his 150th AFL match on Sunday, said the side are preparing for a challenging match against the fourth-placed GIANTS.
“GIANTS are an unbelievable side, phenomenal side really, they’ve got so much talent in every line,” he said.
“Big challenge for our group but one that we look forward to.
“To be the best, you have to beat the best.”
