The Brisbane Lions' amateur affiliate in Victoria - Fitzroy FC - went down fighting against top side Parkdale in Saturday's Premier C VAFA Seniors Grand Final at the Trevor Barker Beach Oval at Sandringham.

After Parkdale led by as much as 36 points during the final quarter, late goals to Jack Dalton, Scott Cations and James Meakin saw the final margin reduced to 18 points.

After Ross Borland kicked the first goal of the final quarter (and his third) at the five minute mark of the last quarter to put Fitzroy within 17 points, Parkdale kicked the next three goals to lead by 37 points, which would prove to be too much for Fitzroy to overcome by the end of the quarter.

Lions sponsored player Toby Hudson-Bevege kicked Fitzroy's second goal for the quarter at the 13 minute mark to reduce the deficit to 31, however Parkdale hit back with another goal to extend the lead back to 37. Ross Borland, proving to be a valuable target in front of goal, kicked his fourth to reduce the deficit to 31 again.

A possible Fitzroy resurgence in the third quarter with two quick goals to Luke Ablett and Ross Borland was stymied by a late Parkdale goal late in the third quarter. Fitzroy trail by 5 goals at the 16 minute mark of the third quarter after Parkdale began to dominate play. Ross Borland kicked the first goal of the third quarter to reduce Fitzroy's deficit to 15 points at the 8 minute mark of the third quarter. However Parkdale added two quick goals to extend their lead by 29 points.

After a one sided first quarter where Parkdale kicked five goals to one (to Scott Cations), Fitzroy's Seniors have fought back in the second to trail by 23 points at the main break of the VAFA Premier C Grand Final this afternoon.

Final Score: Fitzroy 13.10 (88) lost to Parkdale 15.16 (106) by 18 points
