With QClash 15 approaching this Sunday, we’re looking back on the Lions’ first-ever QClash win.
After falling short to the Suns in the debut QClash match earlier that year, the Lions were out for redemption three months later as they hosted the Suns in Round 21, 2011.
It was a vastly different story the second time around, with the Lions dominating from the outset and going on to secure a 62-point win over the Suns.
The Lions controlled the game from the early stages, kicking the first four majors and having all the forward 50 entries in the first quarter.
Brent Staker kicked the Lions' first goal in the third minute and from there the goals came in buckets with a dozen Lions players putting their mark on the goal tally throughout the match.
Legend Simon Black had a huge influence on the winning result, collecting 31 touches and a goal to take home the Marcus Ashcroft Medal.
Blacky celebrates a goal during Round 21, 2011.
At the time, Pearce Hanley played for the Lions instead of Suns and played a crucial role in the third term to help the Lions tighten their grip on the QClash Cup.
The QClash victory on home turf was the revenge the Lions had hoped for after a shocking loss to the Suns in the first QClash during Round 7, earlier that year.
Eight years later and the Queensland rivalry continues to remain as fierce as it was back in 2011.
