Bowel cancer prevention charity The Jodi Lee Foundation is partnering with the Brisbane Lions Football Club on Saturday 24 June at The Gabba, to raise awareness of Australia’s second biggest cancer killer.
Behinds can be the difference between winning and losing at footy. But behinds matter for your health too. This Saturday, The Jodi Lee Foundation will show fans just how important taking a simple screening test can be for your health.
Founder and CEO of The Jodi Lee Foundation, Nick Lee said: “The more people talk about bowel cancer, the more lives will be saved. We want to raise awareness around bowel cancer can and show that it can be a preventable disease when detected early.”
Every week bowel cancer kills as many Aussies as breast cancer, ovarian cancer and cervical cancer combined. The estimated number of new cases of bowel cancer diagnosed this year is predicted to reach 16,682. That’s much too high when if detected early up to 90% of bowel cancers can be successfully treated or even prevented
Taking a simple screening test – recommended from age 50 – is the easiest way to make bowel cancer disappear.
The more tests that are taken, the less we’ll see of bowel cancer.
Lions players Claye and Dayne Beams have thrown their support behind the campaign for another year. The Beams brothers know better than most the devastating impact bowel cancer has on a family, after their father battled the disease.
Dayne said: “Dad knew something was wrong and didn’t do anything about it for some time. He’s one of the lucky ones though as his cancer is now in remission, but we want to do whatever we can to prevent others from going through the same ordeal.”
“I hope our match prompts people to get tested because early detection can save lives.”
The Brisbane Lions are helping The Jodi Lee Foundation empower people to take active steps to prevent bowel cancer and lead healthy lives.
