Development Coach Zane Littlejohn said he was most buoyed by the Brisbane Lions’ NEAFL side’s four quarter effort in their 92-point win over Aspley on Saturday.

The Lions led at every change on the way to a resounding 23.14 (152) to 9.6 (60) win.

“The most pleasing thing was the four quarters,” said Littlejohn.

“To play four quarters and to have 22 contributors was really good.”

Ryan Harwood kicked 6 goals – 5 of those to half time in a performance few would have seen coming considering the Tasmanian has played most of his footy for the Lions across the halfback line.

“Harzy was good. He got on the end of a few and managed to finish with six goals, but it was the work he did off the ball which was really pleasing,” said Littlejohn.

“Obviously he played up forward, most people have probably seen him as a backman but we moved him forward and he played a bit in the midfield as well which we managed to get some good reward from that.

“He had a lot of good helpers along the way – Oscar McInerney in the ruck was fantastic. There were a lot of good contributors on the day.”

The Lions have a bye this week before they head into the second half of the season.

“We probably don’t want the bye. We’ve finally found a bit of form and managed to play four quarters and you’d probably like to keep that momentum going,” said Littlejohn.

“For our group and our footy club at the moment for their mental preparation as well as their physical preparation, a week off will be good for the group.

“We understand we’ve got a lot of hard work to go as a football club and then at NEAFL level. To freshen up mentally will be really good for that and hopefully we can continue to see some growth for the second half of the year.”
