This week’s throwback moment heads five years back in time to a clash between the Brisbane Lions and Melbourne Demons in Round 14, 2012.
Needing a win to keep in touch with the top eight, the Lions flew out of the blocks and jumped out to an early lead thanks to slick goals from Johnathan Brown and Dayne Zorko.
In front of 22,114 fans at the Gabba, the Lions continued to pile the pressure on the Demons, with Jack Redden, Ryan Harwood and Tom Rockliff causing plenty of damage.
Ahead by 13 points at quarter time, a miserly performance by the Lions defence in the second quarter allowed the Demons to add only two more points, while the Lions kicked another few goals to skip away to a 34-point lead.
The third quarter was much the same as the second, with the Lions restricting the Demons attack and continuing to find targets in their forward half.
A five-goal final quarter sealed a big 18.14 (122) to 8.13 (61) victory.
The Demons had four more inside 50s than the Lions, and gathered 11 more contested possessions, but couldn’t convert on the scoreboard when it mattered.
Brown finished with 24 disposals and four goals, while Ashley McGrath and Pearce Hanley added three majors each. Jack Redden was influential with 32 touches.
