The Brisbane Lions remain hopeful they can secure Adelaide speedster Charlie Cameron, but concede time is running out for key forward Josh Schache to find a new home.

The Lions have offered pick 20 to the Crows in exchange for Cameron, who is contracted to remain at West Lakes until the end of 2018.

The Crows have refused to budge, but could be willing to move if the Lions put pick 12 on the table.

Lions general manager of football David Noble told NAB AFL Trade Radio that talks would progress over the next 24 to 48 hours before the trade period closes at 2pm AEDT on Thursday.

"We're hopeful to land Charlie," Noble said.

"We're certainly having some open dialogue with (the Crows).

"We'd like to think by the time we get to the end of trade period, something can be done.

"It might be until Thursday until we get our heads together and see what that looks like for them."

Cameron, 23, has played 73 games for the Crows since being taken with the seventh pick in the 2012 rookie draft.

The Lions are less confident about Schache securing a fresh start, with minimal interest from rival clubs.

"There's a couple that are probably still putting their toe in the water," Noble said.

"We haven't had anyone that has legitimately come to us in the last 24 hours and said, 'Can we do a deal for Josh?'

"Something may happen today, but we're not too sure where that's going to sit.

"Clubs need to get organised, they need to do medicals, they need to do interviews with players, so the timeframe is starting to shorten.

"If he stays, he stays."

One player the Lions will definitely add to their ranks is Hawthorn veteran Luke Hodge, who they hope will play for two years while also coaching.

The Lions can add the four-time premiership winner for nothing in the pre-season draft, but are considering doing a trade with the Hawks to provide them with compensation.

"That was the plan, through pre-season, but if we can do something and help Hawthorn come Thursday, then that's just a nice gesture," Noble said.

"He's been a great player for Hawthorn and a great stalwart."

Noble said the Lions wouldn't be pursuing their initial interest in Power ruckman Matthew Lobbe, while fellow big man Stefan Martin will be staying at the club.
