Brisbane Lions Vice-Captain Daniel Rich has signed a five-year contract extension, becoming the latest in a long list of Lions to re-commit to the Club in recent months.
Rich has committed to stay at the Hyundai Centre until at least the end of 2021 in a deal that should make the midfielder a one-club player.
Rich, 26, has played 122 games since being drafted in 2009 and the new contract will see him through the restricted free agency window.
“I think it’s every AFL player's dream to be a one-club player, and now I’m in the position for that to be the case for me,” said Rich.
“I love it here in Brisbane – I love the Club, I love the boys. It was a no-brainer.”
Rich becomes the 11th player to re-sign with the Club since August. He joins fellow Vice-Captains Dayne Zorko and Pearce Hanley as well as Stefan Martin, Mitch Robinson, Marco Paparone, Harris Andrews, Ryan Harwood, Jaden McGrath, Rohan Bewick and Josh Clayton.
“The recent signings speak for themselves – there has been a lot of guys in the past 6-18 months sign on, and not just the leaders but also the young, emerging guys as well,” said Rich.
“We’ve got a really young and talented list and I think we’re going to see a lot of growth over the next few years.
“It’s one of those things where if (my contract negotiations) drags on you will constantly be asked about it, having it hanging over your head.
“It’s good to knock it over now and focus on this year and the years to come.”
Senior Coach Justin Leppitsch also signed a contract extension to the end of 2017 earlier this month, while the Club also just announced a multi-million dollar, three-year major partnership with Australian premium Infant Formula manufacturer Camperdown Dairy International.
