The Brisbane Lions can confirm that Troy Selwood sustained rib cartilage damage following a collision with Essendon's Kyle Hardingham during yesterday's match at Etihad Stadium.

Selwood was taken to hospital immediately after the incident and scans later revealed that there were no broken bones as initially feared.

He stayed in hospital overnight and will be assessed later this afternoon to determine whether he is able to fly back to Brisbane this evening.

Selwood is expected to make a full recovery, but will obviously miss the Lions' final match of the 2010 season this Saturday night against Sydney at the Gabba.
