Lions legend Jonathan Brown has called on Brisbane’s senior players to lead the charge in tomorrow’s QClash 12 at Metricon Stadium.
Brown said the likes of Pearce Hanley, Daniel Rich and Stef Martin needed to fire in the Queensland derby if Brisbane were any chance of upsetting the Gold Coast for the second time this season.
“The Lions have improved their contested footy in the past few weeks but they need to transition the ball better and avoid that sideways and backwards stuff that frustrates the fans,’’ Brown told The Courier-Mail.
“Someone like Pearce Hanley needs to stand up and have that run-and-carry off halfback and Daniel Rich needs to get involved as well.
“I’d love to see Stef Martin bounce back to the form we know he is capable of too.
“Those guys that get the ball moving and have the ability to take the game on are so important for Brisbane.
“The young blokes are learning, doing their bit and showing some good signs but the senior guys need to carry the load.
“It’s going to be a big ask for Brisbane because the Suns look primed for a solid finish to the year but Brisbane can learn a lot from what St Kilda didn’t do last week.
“There was just no pressure from the Saints. It was like the Coast was playing against witches hats.
“Brisbane need to bring that effort and intensity.’’
