Assistant coaches Danny Daly and Murray Davis described it as a game of two halves.
“Our ability for the boys to play a good brand of football, get it inside 50 and more importantly impact the scoreboard through goals was a fantastic result,” Daly said.
“In the second half, as it does in football, the momentum does change.
“Luckily enough it wasn’t enough for Carlton to get over the line and we came out four point winners.”
Danny Daly covers what went well
Our leaders stood up on the weekend.
The Brisbane Lions coaching staff asked for a special effort from our leaders and two players lead the way as far as leadership and gameplay is concerned.
“Dayne Zorko had an unbelievable first half – probably one of the best first halves of footy I’ve seen this year from anyone.
“Of his 27 possessions, we scored 11 times.”
Zorko's 35.9 is the 10th best game recorded (2010-now).

27.9 points in the first half is the second-best recorded.
Zorko was further commended on his ability to win clearances and drive the ball inside 50 to the advantage of our players.
Captain Tom Rockliff has also been recognized for his consistency.
Rockliff was given a good wrap for his tackling pressure, his ability to move the ball forward and his ability to defensively get involved and read the play.
“Rocky’s been outstanding in his leadership, going out and playing his role, captaining the club and bringing them along to make sure we had a good result on the weekend."
Murray Davis covers our tackling and pressure
Our first half was built on the back of our pressure.
“One thing that was really pleasing was our first half and the amount of pressure that we applied to Carlton,” Davis said.
Davis explained that tackling isn’t the only component of pressure – it can be made up of a lot of different things.
Davis highlights contest and forcing your opponent out of the contest, awareness and the importance of communication as major components of pressure.
