The Brisbane Lions are expected to regain key-defender Daniel Merrett for Sunday’s clash with Essendon at Etihad Stadium.
The veteran backman missed last weekend’s match against the Giants with illness.
Meanwhile, Daniel McStay has had surgery this afternoon to repair a fracture to his right ankle.
Dan McStay to miss rest of Season
The 21-year-old suffered the injury after landing awkwardly in a marking contest with Giants forward Jeremy Cameron in Sunday’s loss to GWS.
“He saw an orthopaedic surgeon yesterday and he’s had surgery today. He should be ready to go, come the start of pre-season,” said Lions Head of Physiotherapy Shane Lemcke.
Lemcke said while Lewis Taylor’s ankle injury was improving quickly, he expects the 21-year-old will miss this weekend’s match against Essendon on Sunday.
“Lewy injured his ankle in a training drill at the main training session on Thursday, which ruled him out of the weekend’s game.
“He’s improving quickly but he’s still very much in doubt for this weekend. He’s probably more likely for the week after.”
Lions Medical Staff are confident ruckman Stefan Martin will play against the Bombers despite copping a heavy hit to his ribs when he collided with Giants goalsneak Steve Johnson.
“He’s a little bit sore but he should be fine for the weekend.”
