The in form Sydney Swans have now recorded four wins from their first five games of the season and will look to continue their good run when they hit the Gabba on Sunday afternoon.
The team are currently number one for contested possession in the league which was evident in their Round 5 win over the West Coast Eagles with five players all reaching double figures for contested possessions.
Swans co-captain Jarrad McVeigh was in awe of his team following the win and said the Swans will look to continuing the pressure and intensity around the football come this weekend’s Round 6 match at the Gabba.
“There were some huge contests that they won along the boundary line to get the ball forward moving for us,” McVeigh said.
“That is what those guys are best at and we are in awe when we are watching them do it.”
All other areas of the field are covered with Lance Franklin manning the forward line while Swans defender Aliir Aliir will make his debut this weekend, replacing injured veteran Ted Richards.
Injury watch
The Swans will need to make at least one change for Sunday’s match after defender Ted Richards suffered a fractured eye socket in their Round 5 win over the West Coast Eagles.
Richards underwent minor surgery on Monday and is expected to sit out the next two to three weeks.
Jeremy Laidler suffered a concussion early in the match and will continue to be assessed during the week.
Another Swan to keep an eye on is Gary Rohan who is fit and ready to return to footy this week following a hamstring injury which has seen him out for the year thus far.
Swans General Manager of Football Tom Harley said they’re confident Rohan will be back in tip top condition, should he be selected this week.
“Gary Rohan’s in great form – well we haven’t seen him play yet – but he’s in great form in the way he is prancing around the offices at the moment,” Harley said.
“He’s done a really good block of work now so we’re confident he will contribute straight off the bat."
