Three months into his new role as Senior Coach at the Brisbane Lions and Justin Leppitsch says he’s “loving” the challenge of being at the helm.

In only a short time at the Club, Leppitsch has overseen a turnover of more than a dozen listed players, formed a new-look coaching staff, travelled with the team to Arizona for a high altitude training camp, and begun implementing a new game plan.

The former triple premiership player seems to be relishing the responsibility so far, however he looks forward to a well-earned break at Christmas.

“I’m loving the coaching element of (the job),” Leppitsch said at the team’s final training session of the year on Thursday.

“Everyone’s looking forward to the break. Then you can sort of see the games in sight when you get back in January.”

Leppitsch heads into the break comfortable that the team is adapting well to his new game style.

“I think the group’s adapted quickly. I must say that when you first come in and deliver a new game plan, there’s always blank looks and silence,” he said.

“But now the players and coaches are readily communicating, which is always good, and things are starting to flow a little bit more.

“It’s a bit of a snowball approach. It takes a bit to get it started.”
