NEAFL Development Coach Paul Hendrickson told lions.com.au the most pleasing aspect of their 10th straight win was the equal level of contribution, with most players accumulating between 10-26 disposals each.
“It was a real team aspect… we discussed after the game that everyone had their chance to pull their weight and play their role,” Hendrickson said.
Hendrickson the bye week allowed the players to recover and regroup, which enhanced their performance.
Tom Fullarton had one of his best games to date, kicking three goals.
“Tommy Fullarton was outstanding, to get 17 contested possessions as a tall,” he said.
“He seemed vibrant, energetic out on the field, he was exciting to watch on the weekend.”
With the focus on the weekend being overall pressure, the return of AFL listed defender Marcus Adams, created an unstoppable backline.
“For him, he just loved being back out there playing footy,” Hendrickson said.
“His last official game was in July 2018, so for him to just get back out and be within the team and get to start to work with his teammates, he just loved playing footy.”
Zac Bailey also made his long-awaited return from injury and did not miss a beat.
“He was really, really good it was great to see him back out there,” he said.
“He showed that he is a class act and has some really strong AFL capabilities.”
Irish recruit James Madden also achieved a major milestone by kicking his first goal.
“Jimmy in the last couple of weeks has played forward, he took a big contested mark and then slotted through his first goal,” he said
“All the boys got around him, it was great to see.”
Hoping to go 11 straight this Sunday the NEAFL side will play the Redland Bombers at 11:40am as the curtain raiser for the Lions AFL team who will take on Melbourne at 3:20pm at the Gabba.
