COACH Justin Leppitsch is denying club injury curses and looking towards destiny ahead of Sunday’s ANZAC weekend clash against the West Coast Eagles.

“No, there’s no curse we’ll be fine”, he said.

“Every club has its ups and downs, and a win this week will bring some confidence back into the group and we can regain our season.

“It’s only very early and the place is very positive, while we’ve had a bit of bad luck, those things can turn around.”

Leppitsch suggested that mentality has been a contributing factor to the team’s rough start to the season.

“The worse part of last week’s game was probably the six goals in the last 10 minutes, just for us to drop away and lose hope in the last 10 minutes was disappointing.”

The Lions have endured a round of setbacks with Claye Beams, Jaden McGrath and Sam Mayes all sidelined after Saturday’s match against Richmond.

However Leppitsch said that this week could see the return of Captain Tom Rockliff, bringing some positivity and leadership back into the side.

Wearing an Anzac commemorative Guernsey in Round 6 last season, the Lions gave Justin Leppitsch his first AFL win as a Senior Coach by upsetting St Kilda in Christchurch.

“We won our first game on ANZAC Day last year in New Zealand, maybe its destiny again.

“Let’s hope it starts this week and we kickstart some positivity back into the group.”
