LIONS Elite Performance Manager Brett Burton says Tom Rockliff is making steady progress in his recovery from an injury sustained in Saturday’s loss to Collingwood.
“Rocky’s obviously pretty sore”, he said.
The Captain will miss 4-6 weeks of football after scans confirmed broken ribs and a punctured lung, following an accidental knee from Magpie Travis Varcoe during the third quarter.
Rockliff was discharged from hospital today.
“At the moment it’s about getting that lung operating properly”, he said.
“It’ll be a couple of weeks until he can actually exercise and then after that it’s really just waiting for the ribs to heal – and that’s just a pain tolerance thing. We’ll see how it goes over the next couple of weeks.”
Burton said there were also a couple of injury concerns in the Reserves’ loss to the Gold Coast Suns at Coorparoo on Saturday.
“Jackson Paine got a knock on the shoulder; he’s quite swollen at the moment. He’ll possibly miss one or two games.
“Luke McGuane’s knee has blown up as well so we’ll just see how the swelling goes and make a decision from there”, he said.
The Lions will travel to Melbourne to take on North Melbourne on Sunday.
