LIONS Offensive Strategy Coach, Gary O’Donnell, says he’s been impressed with the form of Nick Robertson during the first half of the year.
The 20-year old, known for his aggression at the contest, was drafted to the Lions from West Perth in the WAFL at the end of 2013.
Robertson played the opening rounds of NEAFL for the Reserves before having sinus surgery. He was selected in Round 4 against the West Coast Eagles and has played every match since.
“Nick Robertson’s my positive, he’s probably been our most improved player.
“He’s had a fantastic start to the year and is a great fella to have around the footy club.
“He’s the one big plus for us, but we’ve had Christensen, Beams and Robinson come into the football club as well and they’ve had good input.
“But, we want to do better in the second half.”
The Lions’ biggest loss came in Round 2 with an 82-point defeat to North Melbourne. Despite a 37-point victory to Port Adelaide in Round 7, the Club have an average losing margin of 50-points from 8 losses in 2015.
“There’s a lot to do, but we’ve got a young team coming through and we’ve got to get the most out of the second half of the season.
“He only played three games, I think, but Jaden McGrath, young ‘Sparra’ did really well – he’ll be an exciting player when he comes back.
“Harris Andrews and Dan McStay have also been really good – they’re getting good game time and look like they are going to be long term players for us.
“Just probably the disappointing thing has been a couple of others that we were looking forward to playing full seasons, in Michael Close and Jono Freeman, haven’t been able to get out on the park.
“You don’t get the chance to improve the way you should if you’re sitting in the stands with us.”
