LIONS Physical Performance Coordinator Matt Hass says Darcy Gardiner’s ankle injury will be assessed during the week and a decision will be made in the coming days on whether he lines up against Port Adelaide on Sunday at the Gabba.

“Dizz rolled his ankle in a marking contest in the second half against Carlton. It stung definitely, we had to sub him out from there.

“He’s come in Monday morning and returned in a bit better state than we thought. The swelling’s come right out of it and the physios are quite happy with where it is.

“It’s sort of a day to day proposition with Dizz, he’ll be a slight chance to play this weekend but if not the following (week).”

Hass told the Bupa Report that Nick Robertson has pulled up well following an incident in the third quarter. Robertson was taken from the field after he collided head first with the boundary fence.

“Robbo had a bit of a run in with the fence, it probably looked worse than it was. A little bit of head contact but most of the injury was through the back.

“He was taken off and assessed for precautionary measures but obviously returned and finished the match.”

Jackson Paine has had surgery on his ankle and will begin his rehab program in the coming weeks.

“Jacko went in for surgery and had that (ankle) repaired. The surgeon was quite happy with the result, he’ll be in a moon boot and on crutches and he’ll start trekking through his 16-week recovery going forward and should be a chance for later in the year”, Hass said.
