Brisbane Lions greats Michael Voss and Simon Black have been rated in the Top 10 midfielders of the past 20 years.
With the retirement of Chris Judd, The West Australian newspaper’s Mark Duffield ranked his best ball magnets of the past two decades.
Gary Ablett Jr finished on top Duffield’s list, rated “as close to perfect as we have seen”, while Judd was 2nd with “the best sidestep in football, and a great big game player”.
Michael Voss was next at No.3. Duffield wrote: “Speaking of great big game players. Voss was just 183cm but he played much bigger than that and was one of the game’s early power midfielders.
“He was also a great mark, an outstanding leader and as tough as they came. Overcame two serious injuries to play 289 games.”
Another Brisbane Lions legend, Simon Black was named No. 10.
“Winner of a Norm Smith Medal, one Brownlow Medal and a runner up in two more Brownlows,” wrote Duffield.
“He is Brisbane’s games record holder at 322. Superb clearance player and handballer who made the game easier for those around him.”
