Brisbane Lions AFL Women's player, Emma Zielke’s recovery is on track, quite literally after completing her first running session on Monday night since breaking her foot in mid September.
Women’s team Head of Medical, Miranda O’Hara has been assisting with the recovery process.
“Emma is progressing really well, she has done 5 sessions on the AlterG Anti-Gravity treadmill that she’s tolerated really well,” O'Hara said.
Zielke commenced her first light running session on Monday night, and couldn't hide her excitement when speaking to LionsTV.
“I never thought I’d be excited about running,” Zielke said.
“It went really well, I did a few laps of the oval and its all pulled up really well.”
It’s not often a player is jet setting to the other side of the world the day after a game, but that’s what Zielke had in her diary the weekend she injured her foot.

"It was just just an awkward tackle and I ended up breaking my foot. I went overseas the next day so it was about a month later that I actually worked out what was wrong and I was in a moon boot for 5 weeks. So I haven’t run for about 10 weeks.”
Zielke is scheduled to be back into full training within a fortnight.
The next AFLW training session will be Friday evening from 6pm at Leyshon Park, Yeronga.
