Rockliff in Aussie squad
Tom Rockliff has been named in Australia's International Rules squad
Rockliff, who was named in the AFL All Australian side for the first time last month, is part of a star-studded line-up, which features some of the game’s absolute best.
Upon being named in the 24-man side, the 24-year-old took to Twitter to express his delight in representing both his country and the code.
“Over the moon to represent Australia along so many stars…think I will be star struck in the change rooms,” Rockliff tweeted.
Lining up alongside Rockliff will be All Australian Captain Joel Selwood, and a host of other stars including Patrick Dangerfield, Nat Fyfe, Luke Hodge, Jobe Watson and Steve Johnson.
Hawthorn premiership coach Alastair Clarkson will coach the Australian side, which features a number of other Hawks players including Sam Mitchell, Grant Birchall and Luke Breust.
Of the side, Dangerfield, Hodge, Brendon Goddard, Robbie Gray, Brent Harvey, Kieren Jack, Jarrad McVeigh, Leigh Montagna and Nick Riewoldt have all experienced the hybrid game before, as has regular goalkeeper Dustin Fletcher, who has also been selected for his fourth International Rules campaign.
Of the big names not named in the squad, Gold Coast star Gary Ablett and Collingwood captain Scott Pendlebury were unavailable because of shoulder operations, with Sydney Swans star Lance Franklin also absent.
Ireland will be missing Carlton trio Zach Tuohey, Ciaran Sheehan and Ciaran Byrne after they reportedly chose not to represent their country to instead focus on preparing for another pre-season with the Blues.
