BERNIE ‘SUPERBOOT’ QUINLAN is one of Fitzroy’s greats and for this Throwback Thursday we relive his 1981 Brownlow win.
QuinlAn played 189 games kicking 576 goals in his time with Fitzroy, and was inducted into the Brisbane Lions Hall of Fame in 2012.
The 1981 Brownlow count finished in thrilling fashion with Quinlan tie for the game's highest individual honour with South Melbourne's Barry Round.
It was the first time in the history of the award there were dual winners with the VFL moving away from the countback system just a year before.
Reminiscing in an interview after the award, Quinlan said standing up on stage witht eh Brownlow Medal around your neck is something you dream about as a kid.
Special thanks go to Lions Member - Brenden Campbell for the video footage.
