The 2015 AFL Fantasy competition is upon us, with afl.com.au already revealing every player’s starting price for the season ahead.

Which leads us to the Brisbane Lions, and the players that seem to present the best value…

It’s hard to go past Tom Rockliff, who averaged a record-breaking 134.78 Fantasy points in 2014 to become one of only two players in history (along with Collingwood’s Dane Swan) to earn ‘Fantasy Pig’ status – due to him feasting on points.

Rockliff was an absolute must last year, and teams without him in their midfield invariably didn’t win their respective leagues.

His unprecedented form, however, has resulted in him being the competition’s most expensive player to buy in 2015, with teams needing to fork out a whopping $763,000 for his services.

It’s a huge investment in one player, but one that could also reap a huge reward.

Another stellar Fantasy performer in 2014, Stefan Martin, is the Club’s second highest-priced player at $635,000, while fellow midfield guns Dayne Beams ($609,000), Jack Redden ($598,000), Pearce Hanley ($558,000), and Dayne Zorko ($498,000) round out the top six.

In terms of value, Lions fans need look no further than Daniel Rich, who will cost teams just $268,000 due to him missing the majority of last season with a knee injury.

Similarly, Brent Staker ($245,000) and Matthew Leuenberger ($277,000) present great value, as they can expect to see plenty of game-time when fit.

After failing to rack up many AFL Fantasy points in 2014 due to a persistent knee injury, Luke McGuane’s value has bottomed out to the point where he is the Lions’ equal cheapest option at $120,000 – together with rookie Matt Hammelmann and Cian Hanley.

But should he regain peak fitness, McGuane could present an affordable option in the forward line, particularly as the Lions are expected to feature a new-look attack following the retirement of long-time spearhead Jonathan Brown.
