Dayne Beams will have shoulder surgery early next week and miss the rest of the season.
Brisbane Lions medical staff are confident the shoulder will be ready to go for next preseason after the reconstructive surgery.
Beams has carried a problem for weeks and was already facing with the prospect of surgery before re-injuring the shoulder on Saturday against Geelong.
General Manager of Football, Dean Warren, said: “Dayne has been one of our best across the season and while it’s disappointing to lose him for the remaining games, it’s in his best interest to get the surgery now.
“We are confident he will make a full recovery and be ready to go for the 2016 season.”
The injury news was better for Matthew Leuenberger, the ruckman expecting to be sidelined for 2-3 weeks with a Tib Fib joint (just below the knee) strain suffered against the Cats.
