The Brisbane Lions can’t be satisfied with just pushing the AFL’s top sides for three quarters, and are determined to finish off their good work of recent weeks, says Assistant Coach Murray Davis.

Reflecting on the team’s effort against ladder-leaders Fremantle in Perth on Sunday, Davis said it was a good effort but ultimately disappointing to not get the win.

Match Report: Lions V Fremantle

“We played lots of good footy for three quarters but weren’t able to get the job done,” Davis said in the Vero Coaches Wrap.

“It’s always a tough road trip getting over to Fremantle and we played pretty similar to last week – three good quarters but we weren’t able to get the job done.

“But there were lots of positive signs.

“We’ve been working on our tackling and defensive pressure and the (wet) conditions probably meant that it was going be a high-pressure game and the players had to bring that intensity, and we were certainly able to do that.

“We’ll continue to work on it for the back half of the season.”

Davis also praised the continuing form revival ruckman Matthew Leuenbeger, who was nominated for afl.com.au’s Team Of The Week for his two-goal, 51-hitout and nine- tackle game against Aaron Sandilands.

“It was a terrific effort by Leuey – we all know how much of a dominant ruckman Sandilands is – but Leuey was able to challenge him not only in the hitouts but also by hitting the scoreboard and kicking two goals himself,” said Davis.
