Midfielder James Aish says he is loving being part of the young Brisbane Lions’ playing group and is focused on winning his spot back in the Senior team.
Aish described as “really positive” a meeting at the Gabba today between himself, manager Liam Pickering and Lions CEO Greg Swann and General Manager of Football, Dean Warren.
“It went really well today. We talked about moving forward from here and my main aim is to get back playing,” said Aish.
“It was really good to see the boys get a win on the weekend, so at the moment all I want to do is get back playing in the Senior team and be part of it because it’s exciting and hopefully we can build from here.”
Aish, taken with pick No.7 in the 2013 National Draft, said his sole focus was on his football.
“With the contract, I’m leaving it to my manager and the Club, they are going to keep on talking throughout the year,” he said.
“We don’t have any set dates but they will continue talking … and I’ll be left to keep trying to get a kick and get a few games in the Seniors.”
Aish said he had enjoyed his time in Brisbane to date.
“I’m loving it, the group is growing together,” said Aish.
“Like everyone says, we’re really young but we’re going to keep building and there’s going to be ups and downs along the way, but hopefully the first win against Carlton can push us forward and we can build from here.”
Swann said the Club was looking forward to Aish working his way back into the Seniors.
"We are really pleased that Liam has come up and spoken about a way to go forward in relation to James, and we are satisfied with where the process is at,” said Swann.
"We will continue to discuss James' long-term future as he seeks to return to the Senior team. His selection will be solely based on form."
