Lions confident of against Hawks despite drubbing in NAB Challenge
THE BRISBANE Lions will carry no scars into Saturday's opening round clash against Hawthorn despite being humiliated by the reigning premiers just five weeks ago, Matthew Leuenberger says.
Leuenberger admitted Hawthorn's pre-season form – a perfect three from three – had been ominous, but said there was no certainties in the League.
"You look on the weekend and GWS beating Sydney for instance and I don't think too many were expecting that," he said.
"I can think of 12 to 14 sides that are going to contend for the top eight. Where we fit into that, I'm not too sure."
Former captain Jonathan Brown got through a full training session on Monday afternoon and looks more likely to play after a disrupted pre-season.
Captain Jed Adcock and Richmond recruit Luke McGuane were absent with stomach viruses but are certain to be available.
Geelong premiership player Trent West will also play, and Leuenberger said having a second ruckman alongside him would be "awesome".
"I'm just loving having the chop-out from him to be honest," he said.
"It'll probably take a bit of time to adjust to it, but I know personally playing against two ruckmen is a lot harder than playing against just one and a key forward that pinch hits.
"I'd like to think the two of us can work over opponents a lot better than if it was me one-out. In the team regards it's certainly an asset for us."
