SYDNEY has broken its duck for 2017 in emphatic fashion, defeating the Brisbane Lions by 54 points at the SCG on Sunday afternoon on the back of eight goals from Lance Franklin.

The Swans burst from the blocks and led by 35 points at quarter-time on the way to a 20.15 (135) to 12.9 (81) win.

Franklin had five goals by half-time, and added two more in the third term and a final goal on the final siren. 

The Swans spearhead even had time for a spirited push and shove with Nick Robertson that earned him a free kick and a goal.

Defender Zak Jones (27 disposals) and midfielder Luke Parker (30) were among the Swans' best, while former captain Tom Rockliff was the Lions' top performer with 32 disposals.

Lions defender Marco Paparone was also impressive with 28 disposals in his first match for the season.

While Rockliff, standing in as captain for Dayne Beams, notched 32 disposals, 11 tackles and two goals.
