Mitch Robinson at 30-years-old and one of the most experienced Lions players admits he’s out of his comfort zone at his fourth pre-season camp in Tasmania, under Senior Coach Chris Fagan.
The living arrangements see up to eight players share an apartment together and travel to and from training together each day. The coaches allocated the groups before camp.
But with three new players coming from different clubs and four first year players introduced to the Lions this year, the Tasmanian believes this is the best way to integrate them properly into the group.
“It’s really good,” Robinson said.
“Some of us get outside of our comfort zone. We all room together, there’s about six of us in my apartment.
“You probably talk to the blokes you wouldn’t talk to at the Club or outside of footy.
“That’s a really good advantage for us.”
Robinson spoke to media this morning from the Lions’ first day of training at Twin Ovals, Kingston. Five Tasmanian Devils players had the opportunity to train with the senior team.
“They’ll soak it all in, they’ve had a good little training run,” Robinson said.
“It’s good to have them down here and involved.”
Robinson may be approaching his 12th season of AFL but he can still remember what it is like being in their shoes.
“I was in the VFL squad when I was 16/17 and I got to train with Hawthorn, so it’s actually funny, I was playing on Birchall. I was a little forward, he was a back,” he said.
Although unable to participate in training today, Robinson is expected to play in Thursday’s match simulation.
“Body feels good,” he said.
“I feel fresh and ready to go so I still act like a 21-year-old.”
