To kick off the 2020 season in Victoria, around 4000 Lions fans packed into the State Hockey Centre on the Monday Labour Day holiday for the Family Fun Day.
Fresh from their victories against Carlton on Sunday, the Senior and NEAFL players were only too happy to continue the positive vibes with plenty of autographs, photos and chats with their Vic supporters.
There was something for all ages, including a jumping castle, face painting, balloon shaping and puppets, photos with ‘Roy’ the mascot, magic, a photobooth, handball competition, and the ever popular memorabilia and merchandise on offer from the Fitzroy-Brisbane Lions Historical Society.
And it also wouldn’t be a Melbourne Lions event without Fitzroy’s favourite son Kevin Murray making an appearance. As always, he was extremely generous with his time offering up plenty of signings, selfies and stories.
Throughout the morning MC Craig Huggins entertained fans by interviewing many of the players and coaches, including Chris Fagan who was one of the first to arrive and last to leave.
Appropriately Chris had the final words on the day, thanking the Victorian Lions faithful for their unwavering passion and commitment that’s seen the club through the good times and bad, with hopefully more good times ahead with the continual improvement of the team.
Bring on 2020!
