Brown ban upheld
Jonathan Brown will miss the next two matches through suspension
Brown will now miss the Lions’ upcoming games against Collingwood (May 31 at the Gabba) and Fremantle (June 15 at Paterson's Stadium).
“I want to thank the AFL Tribunal for a fair hearing tonight,” Brown said following Tuesday night's hearing.
“Obviously I’m disappointed by the outcome but I’m confident the guys will be able to get the job done on Friday night against Collingwood at the Gabba.”
Brown had originally been charged with a Level Three striking offence for an incident involving Carlton defender Michael Jamison during the third quarter of last Saturday’s match at the Gabba.
The charge drew 225 demerit points, resulting in a two-match sanction, however the penalty would have been downgraded to just one game had he taken an early guilty plea.
Brown and the Club chose to contest the charge, arguing that the act was 'reckless' rather than 'intentional'. Unfortunately it proved unsuccessful.
It means the Lions skipper will be another significant absentee from Friday night's game, with Matthew Leuenberger (thumb) and Tom Rockliff (quad) already ruled out through injury.
