New Lion wins time trial
Draftee Nick Robertson was fastest in the Brisbane Lions' latest time trial
Robertson was recruited to the Lions with their final selection (Pick No.34 overall) at last November’s AFL Draft as a strongly built midfielder with elite endurance.
And the West Australian teenager showcased his supreme running ability by passing the post first in the team’s 2km time trial after the Christmas break.
The feat was even more remarkable considering he'd spent a large part of pre-Christmas training as part of the rehab group.
Robertson is the latest first year player to make an immediate impact in the pre-season time trials, after Marco Paparone and Michael Close set the standard on the track in the lead-up to last season.
Close maintained his status as one of the team’s best runners by finishing second in the latest test.
“Nick Robertson won (the time trial), which is a good effort from a first year player, particularly considering he’d been in rehab over the Christmas period with a quad strain. So it was a good effort from Nick,” Physical Performance Manager Brett Burton told LIONS TV.
“Second was big Michael Close, he’s got a good engine, and then Dayne Zorko was third with Sam Michael not far behind him.
