It’s been almost four months since the Brisbane Lions officially kicked off their 2014 pre-season preparations with a high altitude camp in Arizona.

Since then, the players have spent countless hours in the gym, on the track, and in team meetings, with the team’s season opener against Hawthorn firmly in their sights.

On Saturday 8 March at the new Moreton Bay Central Sports Complex, the team’s pre-season program will culminate with one final practice match against 2012 Premiers, Sydney.

Assistant Coach Shane Woewodin said he expects the match to be a great indicator of how the Lions have adapted to Justin Leppitsch’s new game style.

“Hopefully Sydney bring a really good team up – I think they will considering it’s their last practice game before Round One,” Woewodin told LIONS TV as part of the Vero Coaches’ Wrap.

“(Sydney) has a quality midfield, with A-Graders throughout all areas both inside and outside.

“It will be a great test for us. We’ve certainly worked hard over the pre-season on our stoppages and contested footy, and that’s a part of the game where Sydney have pulled our pants down in the past.

“We’d like to at least break even in that area.”

The Swans and Lions each took one win and one loss from their two NAB Challenge encounters, with the Burpengary contest set to balance the pre-season ledger one way or the other for both sides.
