Tests for Franklin, Tippett
Sydney will be monitoring the fitness of Lance Franklin and Kurt Tippett
Both players appeared at training at the SCG on Tuesday afternoon, with Franklin completing a light skills session while Tippett ran laps.
Club physiotherapist Matt Cameron told SwansTV’s HCF Injury Update that Franklin would need to prove his fitness in the club’s main training session on Thursday, but was confident the forward would be available.
“(Franklin) bruised his knee quite badly in the Melbourne game,” Cameron said.
“He’s landed on it earlier in the game and then again in the third quarter.
“He’s just working on getting over that and we’re hoping he’ll be able to train on Thursday and will be right to go this weekend.”
Cameron said Tippett, who is recovering from a cracked rib suffered in the Swans’ reserves clash with the Gold Coast on April 19, would also be monitored at training this week.
“Kurt is improving day by day,” he said.
“He’s started running and we’ll reassess it each day.
“We’re hoping he’ll be able to train on Thursday and we’ll make an assessment from there.”
Co-captain Jarrad McVeigh (corked calf) and Lewis Jetta (shin) are both expected to be available for Saturday’s clash with the Lions after suffering lower leg injuries in last week’s win over the Demons.
“Jarrad got a knock on the calf early in the match, so he had to play most of the game with it,” Cameron said.
“He’s got a cork in his calf, which might mean that he may not be able to train on Thursday, but he should be able to train Friday.
“He should be okay to play.
“Lewis just had a bruise on his shin, which was painful at the time but he’s pulled up well and has been able to train today.”
