It’s been a hectic opening to the 2014 AFL premiership season for the Brisbane Lions.

Not only have the Lions travelled to Launceston, Adelaide and Wellington during the first six rounds, but the Club has also played games on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

It has meant that no two weeks have been the same in terms of the Club’s preparation.

The constant travel mixed with a combination of five, six, seven and eight-day breaks has given the first-year players, in particular, a whirlwind start to their AFL journey.

Fortunately things are about to become more consistent for the Lions in terms of the Club’s fixture.

The Lions’ will play their next 11 matches on Saturday – including a combination of day and night matches – meaning the team’s preparation can become a bit more predictable.

The Club will still travel interstate seven more times this season, however six of those will be to their ‘home away from home’ in Victoria.

“It’s quite a luxury to have 11 straight Saturday games, and we have three of our next four games at home, with a Bye there in the middle,” Strength and Conditioning Coach Matt Hass form the Bupa Support Team told LIONS TV.

“It’s an opportunity to get some good recovery and freshen-up the boys.

“Going forward we can have a nice and consistent training schedule. It makes it much easier for us to monitor the boys’ progress week to week.”

The sequence of Saturday matches begins this Saturday night at the Gabba when the Lions face the Sydney Swans.

It is the first of seven consecutive home matches at the Gabba on Saturday evenings.
