Senior Coach Justin Leppitsch hopes the Round 11 win over Carlton helps the Brisbane Lions build some momentum in the second half of the season.
Fresh from only their second win for the season, the Lions are confident of causing another upset this Saturday night when they meet the Western Bulldogs at Etihad Stadium.
The Lions’ first win of 2014, against St Kilda in Wellington, was backed-up by a lacklustre performance against the Sydney Swans at home.
However, Leppitsch believes his team is now capable of producing back-to-back wins.
“Winning promotes a good feeling and confidence in the game plan,” Leppitsch told media upon arriving in Melbourne on Friday.
“We have to make sure we use (the confidence) in the right way – to encourage us to do the right things, and not get ahead of ourselves.
“We’ve been building for the past month. Our training has been of a high standard, and all those little things that you guys don’t get to see.”
A win against the Bulldogs could see the Lions lift themselves up from the bottom of the ladder for the first time since Round 4.
“No one wants to be (at the bottom of the ladder),” he said.
“There’s still a long way to go in the season – there’s still 10 games to go. I’d like to think we can win more than five games this year.
“We’re ready to attack the second half of the year.”
Leppitsch also said that the Lions couldn’t fare worse than they did on their previous visit to Melbourne in Round 9, when North Melbourne dominated proceedings and claimed a 13-goal victory.
“It was forgettable,” Leppitsch said.
“I don’t think we’ll go worse than that…we can only get better.”
