Justin Clarke will have no case to answer for an incident involving Adelaide’s Tom Lynch during last Sunday’s match at the Gabba.
The collision from the second quarter, which saw Lynch stretchered from the ground with a suspected neck injury, was assessed by the AFL Match Review Panel who decided to take no further action.
The MRP’s assessment of the incident was as follows:
The ball was loose in the Adelaide forward line with Lynch and Clarke coming to the ball from opposite directions. Lynch picks up the ball and has possession when Clarke attempts to tackle. The Adelaide player initially raises his body after taking possession and then alters his position, just before the tackle is laid. It was the view of the player that Clarke had no realistic alternative way to approach the contest and the high contact was caused by circumstances outside the player’s control.
Clarke will now be free to take on Collingwood at the MCG this Saturday night, pending the severity of a groin injury that saw him subbed out of the match at half time.
