Before Sunday’s match against Adelaide at the Gabba, there was a definite air of excitement surrounding the Brisbane Lions.

Despite sitting in the bottom four on the AFL ladder, back-to-back wins over Gold Coast and Melbourne, coupled with some promising performances from some of the Club’s younger players, had fans optimistic about the future.

And although the Crows were warm favourites heading into the Round 20 clash at the Gabba, most gave the Lions more than just a ‘sneaky’ chance of causing an upset.

But instead the Lions were left lamenting a 105-point smashing – the Club’s biggest ever defeat at the Gabba.

Vice-Captain Tom Rockliff hopes the loss doesn’t damage the team’s confidence too much ahead of the final three weeks of the season.

“It’s disappointing because all the momentum we’ve built, we have to find that again now and take that into next week against Collingwood,” Rockliff told Lions TV post-match.

“Hopefully we can turn our form around as quickly as we lost it today.

“The good thing about football is that in six days’ time we play at the G, so hopefully we can turn it around by then.”

Rockliff will line-up for his 100th AFL match against the Pies next Saturday night, in a match that could go a long way to determining Collingwood’s chances of participating in the Finals.
