Big challenge for midfield
The Lions will have their hands full against the Swan's strong midfield
The Swans boast one of the competition’s hardest-working midfield groups, and doesn’t rely on just one or two to get the job done.
It’s no surprise to see Sydney ranked third in the competition for contested possessions with 877, while the Lions currently have the AFL’s lowest contested possession tally of 772.
Lions Assisted Coach Shane Woewodin says his midfield group will have a tough task against one of the premier stoppage sides in the competition.
“Our contested footy will play a big part again this week,” Woewodin told LIONS TV as part of the Vero Coaches’ Wrap.
“There will probably be a lot of stoppages again – we know how (the Swans) play, so it’s important we get on the front foot in this area.
“It’s a great opportunity for our young mids to go up against (Kieran) Jack, (Daniel) Hannebery, (Josh) Kennedy, (Jarrad) McVeigh and the likes.”
The Lions’ midfield will once again be led by Jack Redden and Tom Rockliff, with first-year players James Aish and Nick Robertson becoming regular features in the engine room.
