Senior Coach Justin Leppitsch might have labelled Josh Green, Dayne Zorko and Lewy ‘Squizzy’ Taylor as the ‘Three Amigos’, but the tight-knit Brisbane Lions trio will tell you they prefer to be known as the ‘Mozzie Squad’.

Mosquitos by nature are small insects that are widely recognised as being quick, persistent, opportunistic, noisy… and, let’s face it, just plain irritating.

So it’s clear to see why Green, Zorko and Taylor embrace the title.

They might be the three smallest players on the Club’s list, but the exciting trio have become a collective weapon for the Lions up forward this season.

Not only have they combined for 25 goals, but they also rank among the team leaders in goal assists and total score involvements.

Their energy and enthusiasm is not contained to the field either, with their actions reflected in their day-to-day activities around the Club.

Green, Zorko, and Taylor can often be founding ‘buzzing’ around the locker room, and their infectious personalities make them popular figures at the Gabba.

That said, if you surveyed the Lions players on who the most annoying person at the Club is, there’s a good chance their names would appear at the top of the list.

But the Lions, and the trio themselves, wouldn’t have it any other way.

Assistant Coach Simon Black said the ‘Mozzie Squad’ were a valuable asset for the Club, both on and off the field.

“They’re great. They’ve been a real strength of our side and it’s been a pleasure to be involved with them,” Black told LIONS TV as part of the Vero Coaches Wrap.

“They’re a real hyperactive and energetic bunch of guys, and are exciting.

“They have a lot of pace about them – probably the best thing about them is that there are three of them. It’s very hard for the opposition to shut down all three.

“They’re very skilled, are very quick and are turning up inside 50 and getting to the feet of the big fellas.”

With Zorko the oldest at just 25, Green not yet 22, and Taylor still a teenager in his first AFL season, Lions fans should get to enjoy the spoils of the ‘Mozzie Squad’ for some time.

The ‘Mozzie Squad’ in 2014
