It’s been more than 10 months since the Brisbane Lions last secured back-to-back regular season wins.
In fact, each time the Lions have looked like ‘taking off’ this season, they have just as quickly crashed back down to earth with a humbling defeat.
They’ll have another opportunity to break the unwanted streak this Saturday night when they face an in-form North Melbourne outfit determined to make a late surge towards September.
The Kangaroos were responsible for the Lions’ hefty loss at Etihad Stadium back in Round 4, just one week after the team’s maiden 2013 win against Gold Coast in QClash 5.
Assistant Coach Adrian Fletcher is hoping history doesn’t repeat itself this weekend, and that the Lions can finally build on some positive momentum.
“We haven’t won two games in a row, so we’re really keen to get off to a good start against North Melbourne,” Fletcher told LIONS TV as part of the Vero Coaches’ Wrap.
“We were down by 30 points in the first quarter (last time we played them).”
The Kangaroos are also brimming with confidence on the back of consecutive 10-goal plus wins against Greater Western Sydney and fellow Final aspirants Richmond.
“They’re going to play a loose player behind the ball at times, so our ball movement is going to be really important going inside 50m. We don’t want to be kicking it to their numbers,” Fletcher said.
“They take a lot of uncontested marks and once they have the ball, it’s very hard to get it back off them because they have the best efficiency by foot in the AFL.”
