Lions keep it normal
Sam Docherty said the Lions didn't change much during a 'tough week'
The players were in a state of shock when the news surrounding Voss broke on Tuesday, but remained professional in their approach to the Greater Western Sydney match.
Sam Docherty revealed after the team’s resounding 60-point win that the Lions’ preparations hadn’t changed too much under interim coach Mark Harvey.
“Obviously it’s been a tough week, with everything that’s happened,” Docherty told LIONS TV.
“It’s been a long week – it feels like three weeks since we played our last game.
“Not much really changed. We kept it as normal as we could, same structure, same meetings, same preparation for the game. Nothing really changes, just a different voice in the meeting.”
Docherty enjoyed a career-best night against the Giants, collecting 27 disposals (seven more than his previous best), five marks and four rebounds.
The Phillip Island product has now played five consecutive matches since returning from a back injury in Round 17.
However, of his 12 matches so far in 2013, half has been as a substitute.
After being afforded a rare full game, Docherty joked afterwards that maybe that could have contributed towards the Lions winning only their fourth first quarter for the season.
“That’s definitely (the reason),” Docherty laughed.
“Keep me on in the first quarter, and you see what happens. Keep that going Harvs, and if you want to play me next week, we’ll be right.”
