Simon Black will miss the Lions’ last home game of the season against the Western Bulldogs this Sunday after accepting a one-match suspension handed down by the AFL Match Review Panel on Monday.

It will be just the second time in Black's illustrious 16-year career that he has missed a match through suspension. The first time was back in the opening month of the 2005 season, following a three-match ban from the 2004 Grand Final.

The Lions superstar has, however, has had some experience with the AFL Tribunal and Match Review Panel since that fateful 2004 Grand Final.

He has twice been fined for making negligent contact with an umpire, and only last year received a reprimand for striking Liam Picken from the Western Bulldogs.

Black will now miss this Sunday's clash after being charged with a Level Three Striking Offence (225 demerit points, two-match sanction) for striking Giants Captain Callan Ward, during the fourth quarter of last Saturday night's match at the Gabba.

Based on the video evidence available and a medical report from the GWS Giants Football Club, the incident was assessed as intentional conduct (three points), low impact (one point) and high contact (two points). This is a total of six activation points, resulting in the classification of a Level Three offence, drawing 225 demerit points and a two-match sanction.

With no existing good or bad record, Black opted for an early guilty plea which reduced the sanction by 25 per cent to 168.75 points and a one-match sanction.
