Brent Moloney could be sidelined for up to two matches after scans on Tuesday revealed minor damage to his calf.
Moloney was subbed out early in the third quarter of last Saturday night’s QClash against Gold Coast, and looks certain to miss this weekend’s all-important clash with North Melbourne at the Gabba.
The injury could also potentially keep him out of the Lions’ Round 17 match against his former side Melbourne in Darwin.
Moloney’s loss has dealt another cruel blow to the Lions’ midfield, which is already without three-time Club Champion Simon Black.
Black, who was unable to take his place in QClash 6 with a groin complaint, is listed as still being one week away, meaning he’s also likely to sit out the Roos game.
In better news, Sam Docherty is an outside chance of returning after missing last week’s match with a back concern.
Docherty was initially expected to be sidelined for up to three matches, but could return as soon as this weekend pending a fitness test.
Stefan Martin, meanwhile, has suffered a minor setback in his return from a serious ankle injury, after tweaking his hamstring late last week.
Martin was expected to play his first match in almost three months with the Lions Reserves on Saturday, but will instead have to wait at least another two weeks.
“He’s had a few fits and starts with his ankle. When you’re out for that period of time you have to get used to the load,” Physical Performance Manager Brett Burton told LIONS TV as part of the Bupa Recovery Report.
