The Brisbane Lions will wait until the end of the AFL Trade Period before narrowing their search for potential candidates at next month’s National Draft.

The Lions enter the trade period with Picks 7, 25 and 41, while their fourth round selection – Pick No.59 overall – will be used to officially secure Hyundai Lions Academy nominee Jonathan Freeman.

But Lions Recruiting Manager Stephen Conole told afl.com.au that the Club’s draft position is still subject to change depending on the outcome from the next three weeks.

“We’re starting to put a few boys’ names down on the board, but it’s really going to depend a lot on trade week and where we finish,” Conole said.

“If you can get some picks inside the first and second round, you’re going to end up with some really nice players.”

Conole said it was still way too early to predict what type of player the Club will be targeting with their prized Pick No.7.

“We’re a fair way off deciding the exact player we’re going to get with that selection,” he said.

“Like all Drafts, there is a fair bit of talent there – especially the midfield group. There are definitely some high quality midfielders and a couple of talls mixed in with that.”
