LAST TIME THEY MET
Wet weather marred an impressive performance by Geelong spearhead Tom Hawkins, when the Brisbane Lions and Geelong last met in Round 5, 2012. Hawkins kicked 6 goals in Geelong’s 38 point victory over the Lions in Simon Black’s 300th game.

The first half was all Geelong, with Hawkins bagging 5 before the main break, whilst the Lions had to wait until the 20-minute mark of the third quarter to get their first major on the board.

The Lions were competitive but lacked the composure of Geelong who were able to capitalize despite big losses in the stats department. The Lions won the tackle count 108-92, the inside 50s 54-46 and had more scoring shots (21-19), but it was Geelong who were able to put on the score board pressure.

The Lions scored the last 3 goals of the match to draw the final margin back to 38 points. Daniel Rich and Tom Rockliff were the Lions best and Simon Black was gallant in his 300th match. He finished with a goal and 22 disposals, including 12 in the last quarter.

Brownlow Medal Votes: 3. T Hawkins (GEE), 2. P Chapman (GEE), 1. T Rockliff (BL)
