Social media was abuzz on Thursday afternoon with reports that Brisbane Lions veteran Simon Black had announced his retirement and was joining the Sydney Swans’ coaching staff.
But it was certainly news to both the Lions and Black himself.
The Club responded on Twitter with the following statement: “We have heard the reports too but Blacky is still considering his options 2014”.
The Courier Mail later reported that Black also dismissed the speculation, saying that rumours linking him to the Swans’ coaching staff were untrue.
Black is still yet to make a decision on his future, but is expected to advise new Senior Coach Justin Leppitsch within the next week of his preference.
Should Black decide to hang up the boots, it will bring an end to one of the most decorated careers in VFL/AFL history.
Should he choose to play on, he will approach his 17th AFL season just 11 games shy of Kevin Murray’s all-time Club record of 333 games.
Regardless of the outcome, the Lions will advise its members and supporters once a decision has been reached.
Black rumours unfounded
Contrary to reports, Simon Black has NOT made a decision on his future
