Dear Members

Yesterday, all 18 AFL Clubs – Brisbane Lions included – met with the AFL Commission as part of a briefing into the ongoing matter involving Essendon. At the conclusion of that meeting, the Clubs, minus Essendon, resolved to unanimously express our full support for the integrity of the AFL Rules and the need for those rules and the integrity of our competition to be preserved.

The Clubs also unanimously expressed confidence in the AFL Commission and AFL management.

The meeting demonstrated the fundamental need for strong, decisive and stable leadership in the game, at all levels.

A lot has been said in the media this week regarding the Board of the Brisbane Lions.

As Chairman of the Lions, I’ll be communicating to our members next week, our future plans for the Club.

For now, this weekend should be all about football, and no doubt people are sick of talking politics, especially in the midst of a Federal Election. Our boys – the third youngest in the competition – are taking on an improving Western Bulldogs side, in a match that has potential to be a preview of a finals battle in the coming years.

It’s the Devine Members’ Round and our final game of 2013 at the Gabba this weekend and I’d like to thank all of our loyal and passionate members for their support of our Club.

See you on Sunday and Go Lions.

Angus Johnson
